How German is American?

       I was not aware of the amount of German immigrants in America and quite frankly, I had not thought much about it until this article. What I found even more interesting was that many of them settled in the Midwest and overtime some of them did not even identify their German ancestry.  This seems to be very common among many people who immigrate to America.  Overtime, those who are descendants of immigrants sometimes choose not to identify with their ancestry.   The assimilation of American culture into the Germans or any people who immigrate to a different country is one that is usually inevitable. 

            While many German people valued religion they actually came to America primarily This idea of wealth also came about from the desire to acquire property which then could be passed down from generation to generation.  Rightfully so, the Germans who migrated were interested in settling in places that looked similar to their homeland.  They adopted German communities that allowed them to hang on to German culture. The Turner Movement, founded in Berlin was one that was adopted in cities like Cincinnati, New York and San Diego.   It is apparent that the Germans were bound to hold onto their ancestry despite moving to a different country in acquisition of a better life.  That can be said for almost every culture who is away from home. The Germans like many cultures have found a way to influence American cultures without trying to change the fabric of the nation but instead merely making this new land a part of their culture.
