How German is American is extremely readable and sehr interessant (even for me being neither German nor Amercian)!
What impressed me most in the reading is the connection between German-speaking immigrants and Native Americans. For one thing, the German stereotype is not that sociable today. And let's face it, the German culture is exactly featured by the spirit of exploration and imagination (no offense though).That's why it is sehr fantastisch to learn that "a fascination with Indians that has continued unabated to the present" has been developed by the Germans back in the Europe. Fresh information indeed.
Oktoberfest, another German heritage, is also quite popular in the US as mentioned in the reading. We had one each year in Ann Arbor too and it does ring a bell. Other than reserving ethnic culture and promoting culture diversity, economic growth through tourism plays a significant role in the practice of Oktoberfest.
There're a few other interesting topics discussed in the reading. Below are some of my favorite quotes.

It's great to read the material and learn so much more about how the Germans and their culture grew into the nation and its influence today. I am honestly surprised to find a deep German root in American society and contemporary culture. Look forward to the next reading!
